When does my visa extension expire?
The visa extension has a specific expiration date. With the extension, you will be granted an additional 90 days combined with the 90 days of your original tourist visa, which means you will be allowed to stay in Ecuador for a total of 180 days on your extended tourist visa, from the date of first entering the country.
What is the fine if I overstay as a tourist?
In the event that the foreigner remains beyond the allowed time, a fine will be imposed in accordance with the provisions of article 146 of the regulations of the Organic Law of Human Mobility. 50% of a minimum monthly wage, which at this time is approximately $225, and/or the prohibition of entering the country for one year may be imposed if you overstay. If the foreigner wishes to return sooner, they must pay the fine and obtain a visa at any Ecuadorian consulate abroad.
