According to article 132 of the Organic Law of Human Mobility, a foreign person who has arrived in Ecuador as a tourist can obtain an extension of up to ninety (90) days in addition to the days obtained at the time of legally entering the country as a tourist, upon request and payment of the rate that will be a third of the current Ecuadorian minimum monthly wage, which is currently $425.
At EcuaAssist with three simple steps, we will process your Ecuadorian tourism visa extension, fill out the online form, make the payment and in 4 business days, you will receive your visa extension electronically.
Note: In the event that the extension can’t be processed for reasons out of EcuaAssist control, we will reimburse the funds minus $ 25 of administrative fees.
When can I apply for an extension?
You can apply for an extension of a tourist visa for an additional 90 days, as soon as the first day you enter Ecuador on your 90 days visa, from the comfort of your home. The whole process is executed by EcuaAssist online, and you won't need to go to any public office, because we will do all the work for you.
How long does it takes to process my visa extension?
Once you make the payment the process normally takes 4 business days. With the current COVID19 health emergency, the process may take slightly longer, in which case the client will be advised by our offices.
When does my visa extension expire?
The visa extension has a specific expiration date. With the extension, you will be granted an additional 90 days combined with the 90 days of your original tourist visa, which means you will be allowed to stay in Ecuador for a total of 180 days on your extended tourist visa, from the date of first entering the country.
What is the fine if I overstay as a tourist?
In the event that the foreigner remains beyond the allowed time, a fine will be imposed in accordance with the provisions of article 146 of the regulations of the Organic Law of Human Mobility. 50% of a minimum monthly wage, which at this time is approximately $200, and/or the prohibition of entering the country for one year may be imposed if you overstay. If the foreigner wishes to return sooner, they must pay the fine and obtain a visa at any Ecuadorian consulate abroad.
