Social Security Benefits Payable in Ecuador


US citizens living in Ecuador who are currently receiving their U.S. Social Security Benefits can start receiving their payments in Ecuador by direct deposit to an Ecuadorian bank account. Below we are explaining how you can get your social security benefits in Ecuador following these easy steps:

1.- Open a bank account at either Banco Guayaquil or Produbanco.

1.1.- To open a savings bank account at Banco Guayaquil you will need:

- Color photocopy of your visa;

- Color photocopy of your passport’s ID page;

- Color photocopy of your cédula;

- Photocopy of a utility bill;

- Copy of your Social Security Administration letter, to justify the transfers the account will receive from the U.S. Social Security Administration;

- Letter of instruction Addressed to Banco Guayaquil asking the opening of a savings account so you are able to receive the deposits from the U.S. Social Security Administration. If you need help with this letter email us at info@ecuaassist.com.

First deposit to open the account: USD 200$

Your account will be debited USD 5.24$ for administrative fees and USD 1.24$ to issue the card that allows you to make online transactions.

Banco Guayaquil working hours: 9:00h to 16:30h

1.2.- To open a savings account at Produbanco you will need:

- Passport and visa

- Utility Bill

- Verbal reference from family or friends, stating: name and phone number. The bank will call the person to verify.

First deposit to open the account: USD 200$

Your account will be debited USD 5.24$ for administrative fees for the issuance of the debit card.

Produbanco working hours: 9:00h to 16:00h

2.- After you have opened the bank account, you will have to visit the U.S. Embassy in Quito or the U.S. Consulate in Guayaquil.

The working hours of the U.S. Embassy in Quito are from 13:30h to 15:30h on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, with the exception of Ecuadorian and U.S. holidays. Their phone number is: (02) 398 5000 and the phone support is only Mondays and Tuesdays from 8:30h to 10:30h.

The working hours of the Social Security office in the U.S. Consulate in Guayaquil are from 13:00h to 15:00h on Mondays to Wednesdays, with the exception of Ecuadorian and U.S. holidays. Their phone number is: (04) 371 7000 the phone support working hours are not stated but you can call until 3:00pm.

2.1.- When you visit either the Embassy or the Consulate you will need to bring with you the following information:

- Exact address.

- E-mail address.

- I.D.

- Certificate of the bank account you opened in either Banco Guayaquil or Produbanco.

2.2.- You will have to fill out a form, given to you by the officer for your case, so you can be authorized to receive your Social Security benefits in Ecuador. The approval time takes approximately 3 months, but it is advisable for you to confirm this with the Social Security officer at the Embassy or the Consulate.
