What is the Emergency Card Service?

The Emergency Card Service (ECS), provided by EcuaAssist includes:

a.- An Emergency Card, with your medical and personal information.

b.-A bracelet, which will tell emergency responders that you have a card with important medical information in your wallet or purse.

c.- A copy of your emergency information, in an envelope, so you can save it in an important place in your home.  We suggest affixing it to the front of your refrigerator.

d.- Information on how to make an emergency call in case there are any problems informing 911 of the location and nature of your emergency.

The Emergency Card Services card will provide important medical information, as well as personal information, including the contact information of two people, either family or friends, who you would like us to contact in the case of an emergency.

Note: This is not a substitute for a 911 service.  Call 911 immediately in the case of an emergency.  Notify EcuaAssist or have emergency personnel notify us via our 24/7 messaging service, using either email or Whatsapp.  An automated message will then be sent to your emergency contacts alerting them that you have had a medical emergency.  EcuaAssist will also call the assigned emergency contact people, during our regular business hours.  We can help you with translation or legal services, and will be with you every step of the way.

What information will my Emergency Card Services contain?

High-level information necessary to deal with an emergency at the moment you need it, including; allergies, blood type, medications, insurance information, your doctor's contact information, clinical history, and your personal contact’s information.

Where should I keep the Emergency Card Service information?

We suggest that one copy be kept in your wallet or your purse, and the other be kept taped to the front of your refrigerator.

Emergency medical professionals ranging from first responders to paramedics state:

More than 95% of respondents look for a medical ID during emergencies.
More than 75% look for a medical ID immediately upon assessing a patient.
95% look at the patient's wrist to find a medical ID, and 68% look for an ID on the patient's neck.

What are the benefits of having an Emergency Card with information about my medical history?

In an emergency, when you might be unable to speak for yourself the Emergency Card or medical ID bracelet speaks for you.

  • Symptoms of common ailments can easily be misdiagnosed

  • Prompt diagnosis is critical to effective treatment

  • A brief description of vital medical facts engraved on your medical ID ensures appropriate and timely medical care

  • According to published studies, half of all medical errors occur because of mistakes made upon admission or discharge from the hospital

How do I purchase my Emergency Card Service?

First, you have to fill out the required fields of the form, including your personal information and clinical history, and then choose which plan you would like to purchase, either Silver or Gold. Then simply add it to your cart and enter your billing and shipping information.  You can pay with Stripe or any major credit card.

How long does it take to get my Emergency card?

Delivery takes 7-10 business days.  Under the current COVID19 pandemic, we are allowed to go to the shipping facility once a week.  Once your package is shipped we will keep you informed of the tracking number.

What if I lose my card, is there a replacement service?

Yes, a card replacement will cost $15.00 on either the Silver or Gold plan.

Can I update my information? ie. contact person or clinical history

You can update the contact emergency information an unlimited number of times, you just have to send an email to emergencias@ecuaassist.com and we will update the information and process the issuing of a new emergency card.

Since the new card would have unique information, any update will require that we issue a new Emergency card at the cost of $15.00 USD.

I have no one to take a picture of me. What can I do to have a clear picture of my face with white background for my emergency card?

We understand your concern.  If you do not have someone to help out, please take a picture of yourself, with a white back ground, making sure you are not wearing eyeglasses or a hat.

Keep in mind we want first responders to easily identify you when they are looking at your Emergency Card.  We will work to make that photo work, and will contact if it is not useable.

I don’t know my blood type, what can I do?

As another option, you may go to a Red Cross office, (Cruz Roja), in your area, which can test you for your blood type, and then provide a card for your records.  The test can take as little as 5 minutes, or up to an hour if a second test is required for confirmation.  This process requires a small fee.

Another option is offering to be a blood donor, which is free. An added benefit to donation is that they will check your vital signs and your blood will be screened for illnesses.  You also may help save a life!

I do not have private insurance, I’m listed on public insurance. Can I list IESS as my insurance company?

Yes, simply indicate that IESS is your insurance provider in the field requesting insurance information.
